Does Your Shoe Fit?

Congratulations! You’ve just purchased a new pair of shoes and you’re excited to look and feel your best! But how do you know if your new shoes fit perfectly for optimal comfort? Here are a few tips and tricks to ensure you always get the right pair:

Before You Buy

• Make sure to measure your feet regularly either at your local comfort shoe store (such as our locations in Valley Fair mall and Oakridge Mall) or at home! Remember, not only does each brand differ slightly, your feet can also change over time. 
• When measuring your feet, try to do so in the afternoon or evening. After a full day of walking or standing, your feet may be a bit swollen. You want to make sure your shoes will still feel comfortable if that’s the case!
• If you choose to measure at home here are a few easy steps:
• Place your foot on a blank piece of paper and carefully trace the outline. You should be standing with your full weight.
• Measure the length of your outline from the center of your heel to the longest toe.
• Use a measuring tape to wrap around the widest part of your foot- typically at your bunion joint.
• Repeat with your other foot!
• Use the measurements from your larger foot and find the appropriate size below:

Trying on At Home- Check the Fit!

• If you're planning to wear socks with these shoes, try them on in the appropriate socks to check the fit with that extra layer.
• The ball of your foot, which is the widest part, should fit comfortably in the widest part of the shoe.
• There should be about one finger's width between your toes and the front of the shoe. Wiggle your toes a bit to make sure you have enough room.
• Check the shape of the shoe and be sure it aligns with the shape of your foot. Toes should not be squished together and there should be plenty of room for your instep (the top of your foot). 

Trying on At Home- Check the Comfort!

• Stand and walk in your new shoes (do this indoors so you can return or exchange the shoes if needed!). Your shoes should not rub or pinch your feet or cause any discomfort.
• The shoe should be stable and your foot should not roll or twist easily.
• Your foot should be snug against the footbed of the shoe and your arch should feel supported. Some people with a high or low arch, may need to use insertable insoles to provide the necessary support.
• Depending on the material and brand, some shoes will soften or mold to your foot over time. Remember to take this into consideration when trying on your new shoes.
• Above all, trust yourself! You should look and feel good in your new pair of shoes.
